Table tennis: Japanese youngster shocks Feng

Newly-crowned Asian women's singles table tennis champion Feng Tianwei was bundled out of the German Open in Bremen yesterday by Japanese teenager Mima Ito.

World No. 4 Feng (right) was hammered 4-0 (13-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-7) by the 14-year-old, ranked 38th in the world, in the semi-finals of the World Tour event, after battling to victory against China's Li Jiayuan and Liu Fei in the Round of 16 and the quarter-finals respectively.

Feng had won her only previous meeting against the Japanese paddler by the same margin in the Australia Open last year.

The loss comes after Feng's first-ever victory in the Asian Cup earlier this month, where she beat Chinese world No. 3 Liu Shiwen 4-2 to win the women's singles title.
