Taiwan roller skating coach accused of sexual harassment

TAIPEI - A member of the Chinese Taipei figure roller skating team accused her coach yesterday of sexual harassment after she returned to Taipei from competing in the roller skating championships held in Paris, France.

The coach, surnamed Yang, denied the accusation of harassment. Yang said that everything was a misunderstanding.

The sexual harassment case will be handled by the Chinese Taipei figure roller skating association, Yang said.

The team landed in Taipei yesterday carrying a witness statement signed by team members. The statement said that Yang is suspected of sexually harassing a female team member during the competition.

The woman who accused Yang arrived in Taipei yesterday and she immediately met with her father. She then had a meeting with the Chinese Taipei Figure Roller Skating Association Secretary-General Hung Pin-fu and Yang.

Hung said the association has not yet discussed a suitable punishment for Yang should he be found guilty and will discuss the matter with another coach once they return to Taiwan.
