A stern challenge awaits defending RHB Singapore Cup winners Balestier Khalsa, after the draw for this year's competition was conducted at the Ocean Financial Centre yesterday morning.
The Tigers, who shocked Home United 3-1 last November to win their first Singapore Cup, received a bye into the quarter-finals, but they could face current S.League leaders Albirex Niigata there.
Albirex, who have looked hugely impressive this term and lead the league after seven games, were drawn to play Cambodian side Svay Rieng in a preliminary round match.
In the other preliminary round matches, 2009 winners Geylang International will play Laotian outfit Lao Police, while Hougang United meet 2013 semi-finalists Global FC from the Philipinnes.
The Football Association of Singapore said a detailed fixture schedule will be announced in due course.
