US sports brand extends Asian regional reach with Ultimate Frisbee tournament

SINGAPORE - Leading US high-performance sports brand, Under Armour launches its inaugural event in Southeast Asia, through the title sponsorship for regional Ultimate Frisbee tournament, Under Armour Singapore Ultimate Open 2014 (UASUO 2014) happening on Sep 6 and 7, 2014 at Farrer Park Fields.

In collaboration with Ultimate Players Association (Singapore) (UPA(S)), this sponsorship is an extension of the brand's commitment and dedication to support and empower the local sporting community.

An annual tournament created since 1999, this year's UASUO 2014 will see 17 competing teams from across the region including the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Under Armour sponsored top local veteran, Shiok! Singapore - who recently emerged 10th overall in the World Ultimate Club Championship 2014.

"The Singapore Ultimate Open is a great platform for us to reach out to the community and showcase Under Armour's performance apparels in a strong athletic stage. The event has been ongoing for more than a decade and has attracted a strong and loyal community of fans", says Michael Binger, Chief Executive Officer of Triple Private Limited, the exclusive distributors of Under Armour across Southeast Asia.

"Shiok! Singapore represents some of the highest calibre of sportsmen internationally. Our aim is to provide the exposure and support these athletes truly deserve," added Mr Binger.

"We are thrilled to have a strong, global brand such as Under Armour powering the Singapore Ultimate Open. It is reaffirming to see our hard work and efforts finally come to fruition, which has been magnified with the tremendous achievements some of our local teams have been making overseas. With Under Armour's support, we are confident that the sport will reach new heights both locally and internationally," says Enrique Lee, President of the Ultimate Players Association (Singapore).

An Under Armour booth will be open to public during UASUO 2014 offering high-performance gear for purchase. Other activity highlights include a special celebrity match which will see UPA(S) members from different participating clubs team up with Under Armour Athletes from the likes of True Fitness ambassador Paul Foster and Yellow Fellow's Randall Tan, competing against Shiok! Singapore.

To further build and spur the community into athleticism, Under Armour will also launch Armour@TheBay in September 2014, a free-to-participate bi-weekly fitness programme at Fullerton Gardens aimed at motivating individuals to get fit through circuit training. Individuals can register at the Under Armour Collyer Quay store every Tuesday through to Friday and will be informed via text or email upon successful registration.

Powered by partnering gyms such as Ritual, True Fitness and Genesis Performance Centre, each session takes up to 10 participants. Loyalty rewards will be given to regular participants of Armour@TheBay.
