GREAT EASTERN-YEO'S S-LEAGUE
COURTS YOUNG LIONS 2 (Muhaymin Salim 45, Shamil Sharif 90)
WARRIORS FC 1 (Dharham Aziz 18)
If the Courts Young Lions could turn back time, they would have wished their S-League season started a month ago.
After winning two of their last four matches, they claimed a big scalp with a 2-1 victory over Warriors FC at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Thursday night.
Shamil Sharif struck on the stroke of full-time to give his team only their third league win this season.
It was a victory, which Warriors boss Alex Weaver said, boiled down to energy and hard work.
"If there's anything you'd expect from the Young Lions, it's those two things," he said.
"We talked about matching their energy, and in the first half we did that. But then we took our foot off the pedal and allowed them back into the game."
The Warriors led in the 18th minute through Prime League player Dharham Aziz, who struck a 30-metre free-kick off the upright and past goalkeeper Syazwan Buhari.
The Young Lions equalised seconds before the break when Raihan Rahman played a delightful punt up front for Afiq Yunos in the penalty box.
Afiq nodded it down for striker Muhaymin Salim, who took advantage of a mix-up between Warriors goalkeeper Hassan Sunny and defender Marin Vidosevic to slot the ball into an empty net.
In the second half, the Young Lions threw caution to the wind and played with much more vigour.
