KOTA KINABALU - China Eastern Airlines is offering flights from here to Shanghai from next week, which will boost tourism and economic ties between Malaysia and China, says state minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun.
The airline will operate the new route through its subsidiary company Shanghai Airlines from July 15.
He said airline's network connected up to 176 cities all over China and more than 490 international routes around the world.
Shanghai Airlines, he added, would operate Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 12 business class and 148 economy class seats.
The Shanghai-Kota Kinabalu flights will run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while the Kota Kinabalu-Shanghai flight will run every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Masidi spoke to reporters after receiving a courtesy call from Lu Jing, the general manager of China Eastern Airlines Co Ltd, here yesterday.
He added that the new routes would generate more tourist interest in Sabah.
"The new air service will make it easier for Sabah and international visitors to explore what Sabah has to offer," Masidi added.
