Luxury hotel brand Fairmont Hotels & Resorts announced last week that it will take over the management of Hotel Rey Juan Carlos I in Barcelona.
The 432-room urban resort-hotel will be officially rebranded as the Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos I hotel and will undergo renovations next year, though it will remain open.
Designed by renowned Spanish architect Carlos Ferrater, the hotel won Spain's National Prize for Architecture in 1993 and boasts a wide array of amenities, including 19th-century Mediterranean gardens, a fitness spa with indoor and outdoor pools and 13 treatment rooms, and direct access to the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya that houses more than 4,000 sq m of exhibition space and a 2,000-seat auditorium.
Located on Barcelona's main avenue, Avenida Diagonal, the hotel also offers a central downtown location close to the famous shopping districts of Placa Catalunya and Passeig de Gracia, with panoramic views of the city and the sea.
Rooms start at €94 (S$151) a night.
