Flight attendants share their secrets on packing and travelling

SINGAPORE - The first long weekend of the year is arriving and if you are a last-minute packer, here are some tips to become a smart and effective traveller as shared by the people who travel the most.

Lifestyle publication Conde Nast Traveller interviewed "the world's most experienced travellers" - flight attendants - on their best tips and tricks when it comes to packing the perfect suitcase.

In an article posted on their online site, the magazine revealed 11 secrets to make every trip a breeze.

Flips flops, sneakers, walking shoes - which footwear should you bring on a holiday?

According to the flight attendants, flip flops are by the far the most useful shoes. They are perfect for all terrain including beaches and you can wear them in the hotel as well.

A pair of nice flats is also a must if you are going for a fancy dinner or to the theatre. Another ideal pair of shoes to bring along are sneakers - a good pair of walking shoes can help you to sleep better, shared the flight attendants.

To save space in your luggage, wear the most bulkiest shoes you have, they added.

Other than tips to save baggage space, flight attendants also shared little-known secrets to make your trip even better.

Hate bed bugs? For your next trip, bring a bar of soap, wrap it up and slip it beneath the mattress.

The soap supposedly attracts bed bugs. There might not be scientific proof that it works, but every flight attendant interviewed said they have not encountered any bed bugs during their hotel stay.
