Free pizza for delayed airline passengers

Diverted due to bad weather, a Delta Air Lines pilot and airport crew placated their grumpy passengers by ordering pizzas for them.

The 2pm flight from Philadelphia to Atlanta was diverted to Knoxville, Tennessee, because of storms in Atlanta, CNN reported. The storm forced the plane to sit on the Knoxville tarmac for several hours.

But passengers were pleasantly surprised when a baggage cart laden with Pizza Hut pizzas emerged from the airport and pulled up to their aircraft.

"We are sitting on a runway stuck on a @Delta flight because of weather," tweeted one passenger @RileyVasquez. "So they're throwing us a pizza party!"

The pizza delivery was the result of a broader edict as passengers on other delayed Delta flights reported similar feasts. Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant said providing food was "part of an effort company-wide" during such unexpected disruptions.
