A Garuda Indonesia aircraft, flight number GA 618, skidded while making a hard landing under a heavy downpour at the Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport at 2:45 p.m. Indonesian Central Time on Tuesday.
The chief of the airport police, First Insp. Andi Alamsyah, said that following the incident all passengers and crew members were evacuated from the plane.
"All passengers and crew members survived the incident," he said.
He said the incident occurred when the Boeing 737-800 aircraft piloted by Capt. Nikodemus Elim and copiloted by Ida Fiqriah was making a landing in heavy rain and strong wind. The incident happened on Runway 31 and the front and rear-left tires skidded off the runway.
General Manager of state-owned Angkasa Pura I Ahmad Munir said the incident was mainly caused by the bad weather.
"During the accident, it was raining and the wind was blowing strongly while the vision was only 100 meters," he said.
The aircraft with 144 passengers and eight crew members onboard was serving the Jakarta-Makassar route. While the aircraft was being evacuated, all landings and take-offs were moved to another runway.
