How to holiday at Tokyo Disney's theme parks on a budget

It's almost every kid's (and adult's) dream to visit the amazing and fun Disney theme parks.

In Asia, we are lucky to have the parks located near Singapore, but if you are bringing your whole family along, it might turn out to be a costly attraction to visit.

According to travel resource site CheapoTokyo.com, a single-day ticket can cost an average of 6,400 yen (S$71) and meals cost between 1,500 to 2,000 yen (S$17 to S$22).

To spend a day there can easily cost over 7,900 yen (S$90) per adult.

Luckily, CheapoTokyo has come up with nine ways to help you and your family to save.

Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea tickets are split into three categories.

The normal full-day ticket price for adults costs 6,900 yen (S$78), those for children aged between 12 to 17 cost 6,000 yen (S$68) and for young kids aged between 4 and 11, it costs 4,500 yen (S$50).

Passes are one of the best ways to beat paying the full price.

CheapoTokyo suggested getting a "Starlight" or "After 6" passport.

The Starlight passport offers cheaper entry fees and is valid after 3pm on weekends and Japan's national holidays.

Adult tickets start at 5,400 yen (S$60).

After 6 passes are sold at a flat fee of 4,600 yen (S$51) for adults and children.

It is valid after 6pm on weekdays, excluding national holidays. The park closes at 10pm.

Students can get the occasion discount by flashing their identification card, and seniors can enjoy special prices.

If buying tickets at the door, it is good to ask if there are any special discounts that day.

Another way to get a value-for-money experience is by avoiding busy days, said TokyoCheapo.

Weekends, New Year's rush, Golden Week and Obon (Buddhist festival) and national holidays are days to avoid visiting the Disney resorts.

The parks will be packed to the gills and families might find long waiting queues to go on rides and a full crowd to shows.
