KinkBNB: Airbnb-style rentals for kinky travellers

There are quite a number of fans of Fifty Shades of Grey, be it the book, the movie or both. To each his or her own - one person's kinky is someone else's vanilla.

There are also those who are into more than reading or watching a movie, but are more personally involved in the whole shebang that comes with BDSM - the abbreviation that describes the fantasies that bind masochists and sadists.

But where can they go to act it out? According to an AFP report, San Francisco-based entrepreneurs Darren McKeeman and Ryan Galiotto sensed a void in short-term vacation rental properties.

And before anyone could whip out their handcuffs, KinkBNB was born in May and couples could take their "play" all around the world.

Among the listed properties is a prison cell near Leipzig, Germany, for US$200 (S$275, RM716.87) a night. Detractors might say the couples staying there should just lock themselves in and throw away the key.

For those afraid to rough it out, the same AFP report sites the lush Decameron in Los Angeles. This "5-BDSM-stars" property has specially designed rooms that come with amenities like bondage beds, cages, padded bondage walls, fetish swings, built-in restraint systems, body bags, hoods and masks, chastity devices and - thank goodness for hygiene - cleaning supplies.

No, sorry, we don't have video evidence.

The last time we checked, there were no similar properties listed in Malaysia. Do we hear a collective sigh of relief or are those pockets of despairing sighs?

What we do have on the other more legit site for proper rentals (no BDSM allowed. We repeat, no BDSM allowed), namely Airbnb, are some quirky properties where it's all about clean fun.

One property located in the middle of Sungai Lembing town in Pahang is a pretty unique private retreat, called the Time Capsule Retreat. No, there are no fancy contraptions to actually take on a Back to the Future ride.

The idea for this accommodation came from Kevin Young, 26, who wanted to give a spin to this cosy, peaceful retreat that faces lush forests.

So what are these capsules? You have two choices: One is a 7ft by 10 ft (2.1 by 3m) concrete pipe cylinder fitted with warm lighting, air-conditioning and a queen-size bed. Shared bathroom facilities are offered by the retreat that include an open-air jacuzzi (see, we said they are clean and above-board).

The other capsule is the same, only designed for those who want privacy with half circular 4ft x 7 ft (1.2 by 2.1m) glass (with curtains).

Good clean healthy fun, people?
