Spending a weekend in Singapore can be rather costly; a staycation can easily chalk up over $300 to cover just a few well-deserved nights.

Alas, there might be a cheaper alternative. Skyscanner reveals the top five destinations that you can travel to for under $150.

In fact, most of them are just the perfect destination for a weekend trip with your loved one and friends!

1. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, is getting a handful of luxury hotels over the next two years. With a much lower room rate and cheap flights daily, this city is definitely one to go to on weekends, even if it means staying in the hotel all day.

For those craving a little more local, you'll definitely not go wrong with delicious street food along Jalan Alor, and the gorgeous night view from level 38 of the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur.

2. Cebu, Philippines

Be transported into paradise in less than four hours when you fly down to Cebu - an island province of the Philippines. Enjoy a leisurely stroll by the beach and jump into the azure blue waters around the island.

Check out one of many waterfalls located around Cebu (the most popular being Tumalog Falls) to get some relief from the tropical heat. For the adventurous, go shark diving or go trekking in the lush landscape that surrounds the heart of the city.

3. Bangkok, Thailand

Cliches generally happen for a reason, and Bangkok is the perfect example of that! Just because it is a favourite destination among most Singaporeans shouldn't make this city any less attractive.

From delicious street food, affordable shopping and a rather colourful nightlife, Bangkok has something for everyone. If you are a foodie, #1 on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2015 is Gaggan, which is located in Lumpini, Bangkok.

A huge Instagrammer? Be sure to check out Thonglor for an increasing number of quality cafes and bars!

4. Jakarta, Indonesia

Look beyond the infamous traffic congestions and you'll find that Jakarta has a lot to offer for the weekend warrior.

Take a break from your usual hawker fare in Singapore and savour Jakarta's delicious local cuisine, with the likes of bebek goreng (fried duck) and roti bakar (grilled bread).

Head down to the Istiqlal Mosque for a glimpse of history and to be impressed by its grandeur. Adrenaline-seekers looking for a quick fix to the city's heat should make their way down to Waterbom Jakarta - where there is a ride for everyone, no matter how brave or timid you are!

5. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

In Vietnam, look beyond the usual beef pho and banh mi and be adventurous with the food you choose to explore. Our recommendation?

A plate of fresh sea snails cooked in butter, which arrive with safety pins to help you pry the flesh out of the shells.

Once done with your food, immerse yourself in the rich history of Vietnam as you check out the War Remnants Museum and the famous Cu Chi Tunnels. Here, you'll be able to take an obligatory tourist shot too.

It may be easier to stay in the city to spend that hard earned weekend, but there's nothing more satisfying than hopping on a plane for an affordable weekend getaway.

Here at Skyscanner, you'll always be able to find the best flight, hotel and car hire deals so you can travel more without breaking the bank.
