KOTA KINABALU - MASwings is expanding its routes to more interior parts of Sabah and Sarawak starting today.
The opening of six new routes on its rural area services from Bario to Bekalalan, Limbang to Lawas, Mukah to Bintulu, Sibu and Tanjung Manis, and Kota Kinabalu to Limbang, is expected to boost tourism and economic potential there.
MASwings' head of commercial Shauqi Ahmad said the direct flights into the interiors would offer convenience to people in the areas.
It would also be an opportunity for adventure seekers who want to discover these hidden gems, he said in a statement.
MASwings marks its eighth anniversary this year since it began flying the skies of Sabah and Sarawak in October 2007.
The airline is the only one that connects rural areas in the two states for the locals as part of its commitment to support the state governments' aspiration to see economic growth in Sabah and Sarawak.
