Missed flight, lost luggage: Solutions for everyday travel problems

Travel problems such as missed flight or lost luggage are just some irks travellers might possibly encounter at least once in their lives.

Luckily, business and entertainment site Entrepreneur.com has listed four solutions to counter such common travel headaches and to avoid shelling out money for additional fees.

Did you know? If you got caught in a traffic jam and are unable to check-in at the airport, you can escape the penalty with the "flat-tyre rule".

According to the business and entertainment site, industry experts say airlines have an informal rule which allows passengers to have up to two hours leeway to fly stand-by without penalty. This means, the passenger can hop on the next flight if there is an available seat.

Entrepreneur.com warned, however, that this practice is "discretionary" and largely depends on the airline's policy.

After getting to the airport, Entrepreneur.com advises travellers to immediately alert the airline of the lateness by calling them up before reaching the airport.

Upon arrival, travellers can head to the counter and do what they can to catch the next flight on stand-by. There might be a fee to pay but it will be much less than buying a new flight ticket.

Find out what are the four common travel problems and solutions to help avoid further delays or additional costs.
