People who like smaller sailings may appreciate upscale Oceana Cruises. Owned by Miami-based Prestige Cruise Holdings, Oceana Cruises has three mid-size ships - the 684-guest Regatta, Insignia and Nautica - and the newer, 1,250-guest Marina and Riviera.
The first three, spruced up at a mega-million dollar cost, have won the Cruise Critic's annual Editor's Picks Awards for Best Dining (third year in a row) and Best Ship Refurbishment.
The judges were happy with the "luxe makeovers of cabins", from new mattresses and spiffy suites to the French Riviera-inspired pool deck revamp.
