Sharp rise in baggage theft at Indian airports

ACCORDING to figures released by the Indian government on March 16, there has been a 67 per cent rise in the number of baggage theft cases across Indian airports last year.

Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport accounted for nearly 50 per cent of these cases.

Minister of state for civil aviation Mahesh Sharma said several preventive measures have been taken, adding that they include frisking ground-handling staff when they leave the airport.
