Travel search engine Skyscanner has launched a dedicated app to compare and book hotels, which will offer unbiased results with the best rates and allow users to search hundreds of thousands of hotels all over the world.
Announced during a startup event in Jakarta on Wednesday, the so-called Skyscanner Hotels app includes Indonesian hotels from Tiket.com amongst the international hotel options. Skyscanner is also actively working to bring hotels from Swiss-Belhotel on board, as the company continues to improve its travel service for Indonesians journeying at home and abroad.
"The launch of Skyscanner's Hotels app sees our travel services grow again to the benefit of our Indonesian industry partners and Indonesian consumers. We take special care to ensure a high quality, localized experience when we're building our products, prioritizing mobile first. We see the results in our visitor numbers - we nearly doubled our mobile visitors this past year," said Skyscanner senior business development manager APAC Li'er Wong in a press release on Wednesday.
In addition to the new app, the company also announced a 25 per cent year-on-year growth in unique monthly visitors and a 95 per cent growth in mobile visitors over the same period. Interestingly, today 57 per cent of Skyscanner Indonesia's overall monthly users visit the service via mobile, thanks to the country's rapid growth in mobile internet.
According to eMarketer, mobile internet in Indonesia is expected to grow by up to 26 per cent this year and between 17 per cent and 18 per cent year-on-year for the next two years.
