PETALING JAYA - Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has rated as one of the most reliable airlines in the world, despite having had to endure the twin tragedies of MH370 and MH17.
In its list of 22 airlines, American travel website Wanderbat ranked MAS as the 16th most reliable airline in the world.
"Despite the recent tragic disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines plane, the rest of the Airlines' stats still stand firm," said the website.
The three criteria that were used to determine the stats were on-time performance, checked baggage cost and fleet.
On-time performance determines how frequently flights are on time, delayed and cancelled.
Checked baggage cost sees the number of bags you get to check for free, as well as the cost of checking in additional bags.
Fleet, meanwhile, determines the average age of a fleet.
MAS delivered 74 per cent of their flights on time with economy class passengers are allowed to carry two bags for international flight and are charged US$13 ($17.6) for the third bag, while the average age of the fleet is 4.6 years.
However, the website noted that 19 per cent of MAS flights are delayed, a figure significantly higher than the average.
The airline was given a smart rating of 85.
Qatar Airways topped the list with a smart rating of 100 while Emirates was second with China Eastern in third place.
