Lembang just outside Bandung has always been a favourite place to relax on weekends since colonial times.
Unfortunately, since it has not lost its charm as a destination for short getaways for the locals, weekending in Lembang can mean gambling with the possibility of traffic congestion.
The trick to having an enjoyable time in Lembang minus the aforementioned traffic is to plan strategically; so when the long weekend starts, you are already in Lembang.
To help ease your journey, here are five accommodation suggestions in the area for maximum enjoyment and relaxing on a short getaway.
SanGria Resort and Spa
Located on Jl. Hortikultura Lembang, this property offers a beautiful landscaped pool and rooms overlooking mountain views.
What's great about this place is that it's considered quite easy to find and reach from downtown, and it's also near Pasar Lembang which can be reached by walking or taking public transportation and also not far from Lembang's famous tourist attractions such as the Floating Market and De Ranch.
At night, a walk to nearby Lembang terminal will lead visitors to humble warungs selling hot gingery traditional beverages named bandrek with ketan bakar (glutinous rice) or grilled and steamed corn.
However, staying in the resort itself is already refreshing and entertaining, especially for those longing for a relaxing holiday by the pool with occasional massage or spa treats and yoga class. SanGria Resort and Spa offers such packages starting from around Rp 1 million.
Since being officially opened in 2014, Dusun Bambu, which is situated at the foot of Mount Burangrang in Cijanggel hamlet, Kertawangi village, is a very interesting eco-recretional hub that has become one of the most favourite destinations to visit in Lembang.
The 15-hectare site of Dusun Bambu offers a well-designed environment, which still feels natural but polished and exciting at the same time.
There's a man-made lake, lush green forest in its surroundings, a vast green field, paddy fields, a flowery garden and tall trees; perfect for hiking, boating, sightseeing, enjoying culinary treats at its bird's-nest iconic restaurant Lutung Kasarung, or simply relaxing.
Now, visitors can spend days staying at Dusun Bambu's Eagle Camp, which offers a camping experience minus all the hassle of real camping.
Starting from Rp 1.4 million (US$112) per night, Eagle Camp provides comfortable tents with bedding, fireplace -- which are also perfect for a barbeque -- dining area, and comfortable toilets on each 'camp site' which is separated by nice traditional fences and gates.
Visitors can also opt to stay at a Sundanese-village themed hotel in Dusun Bambu, called Kampung Layung. Each villa is said to offer personalized butler service and unprecedented privacy for its guests.
With so many facilities on site, such as restaurants, food market, farmer's market and playground, a getaway at this place will really be refreshing.
Just remember to book in advance as this place is much sought after.
Tea Garden Resort
Tea addicts might want to consider spending a getaway at this place.
Located a little bit further from Lembang at its nearby area of Subang Regency, Tea Garden Resort offers several activities which can make your stay enjoyable such as having a tea walk at a nearby tea plantation, tea workshops, or other activities such as horse riding, golfing, or hiking to the nearby waterfalls.
Situated not far from a vast tea plantation, the cottages are attractively designed in modern minimalist style covered with green vines.
The resort offers several packages and it promises the longer you stay, the cheaper it gets.
Gracia Resort and Spa
Located also in the Ciater area of Subang, near Lembang, this resort is nestled in a vast area near a tea plantation. In fact, to reach the resort, one must pass through a road with vast tea plantations on each side; a very refreshing journey indeed.
Although its design is not as trendy and as happening as other accommodations we recommend, Gracia Resort and Spa wins with its natural hot-spring pool which is very pleasant. Dipping in the pool at night time while the cool mist starts to fall is so nice to experience.
Staying at Gracia, guests can entertain themselves with many other activities as well such as tea walks, horse riding, spa and massage.
Adarapura Resort & Spa
How about staying at a resort that offers you the experience of an old-fashioned Javanese kampung in its most glorious, graceful, and romantic way?
Adarapura, used to known as Jadul Village, styles its entire resort as a traditional Javanese village with pendopo (pavilion) as reception area and semi-open bath area where guests can enjoy bathing in an exotic rock bath tub and stay in rooms adorned with antiques from the colonial era.
Located on Jl. Terusan Sersan Bajuri, the atmosphere of this resort is somehow perfect for a long weekend with a romantic mood.
