70 students succumb to hysteria in Kuantan

KUANTAN - Some 70 students of SM Tok Sira in Jalan Tengku Muhammad here caused chaos during the schooling session after they went into hysteria.

It was learnt that some of them were running around the school screaming causing the teachers to have difficulties to pacify them.

A father, Saifullizan Abdullah, 38, said the situation prolonged for quite some time and was worried of his daugthers Emy Syazana, 16, and Norsyafikah, 13, who were also victims.

"I noticed that it happened several times, and caused disturbance to my daughters' studies.

"Their behaviour changed at home as they have become weak and like to sleep," he said.

"There were students who fainted in school and there were claims that there was whispering sounds telling them to jump from the higher floor of the school building.

Saifullizan said strange incidents occured in the school compound recently where a student died after falling down from the building in May that could have resulted from hysteria.

"Now I am worried for my daughters' safety," he said.
