Court rules language is no barrier for Punjab nurses

The Punjab and Haryana high court has told the Punjab government that it cannot reject a qualified nurse because she does not speak Punjabi.

A proficient candidate who had cleared the selection process for the post but had not been allowed to join as she had not passed the Punjabi language in the matriculation examination, had petitioned against the government's decision.

The court held that a nurse's skills are more important than the language and directed the Punjab government to allow the nurse to join the department within one month.
