Haze crosses into unhealthy range

Haze crosses into unhealthy range

SINGAPORE - Air quality here has inched its way into the unhealthy range as the three-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) crossed into the 'unhealthy' range of 101 and above.

The three-hour PSI reading stood at 58 at 6am, and has gradually risen to 110 as of 4pm today.

The health impact of haze is generally dependent on one's health status, the PSI level and the length and intensity of outdoor activity.

According to the National Environment Agency's (NEA) website, reducing outdoor activities and physical exertion can help limit the ill effects from haze exposure.

When air quality reaches 'unhealthy' levels, people in good physical condition are advised to reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor activities.

Those who do not feel well should seek medical attention.

This is especially so for the elderly, pregnant women, children and those with chronic lung or heart diseases.
