When Amy(not her real name) recounted on her blog on how she had been molested by a male trusted friend during a trip to South Korea, she had only wanted to vent out the frustration and helplessness from that ordeal.
Never did she expect that it would spark a flurry of nasty comments from netizens who had read her post.
The comments netizens left on her blog were like daggers to her heart.
One neitzen wrote: "You asked for it gal...by asking him along, just the two of you, same room, same bed..these are come-on signs."
Another wrote: "Which guy wouldn't think she wanted it? It takes two hands 'to clap. Apparently she did show enough interest for him to reciprocate."
The New Paper reported that earlier in October, Amy had to make a trip to South Korea to settle an accident claim. With no female friends free to accompany her, she turned to Jim (not his real name), whom she had known for three years.
The 24-year-old claimed in an entry on her blog that she had actually booked a hotel room with separate beds for the trip.
Due to a reservation mistake, she was instead assigned to a room with a double bed after the first night because the room with the separate beds was no longer available.
The story was also reported in Wanbao on June 18, 2008.
Believing that Jim could be trusted as he has always been known as "a gentleman" in thier circle of friends, she had had no qualms about having to share the bed with him.
To her horror, on the fourth and last night of the trip, she was awakened by "fingers running along the right side of my back". Amy also alleged that she had felt something rubbing against her buttocks.
She panicked, screaming and jolting up from her sleep.
Jim, who was lying beside her, "then pretended to be shocked and asked me if i had a nightmare", Amy had wrote.
She did not dare to confront Jim alone and sought comfort by spending the rest of the night relating her ordeal to a friend via an online chat programme.
Although Amy had subsequently made a police report in South Korea, the authorities there told her they could not help since both Jim and her were not South Korean citizens. They advised her to make a police report in Singapore instead.
Recalling her bad experience, she had written in her blog: " I felt violated and dirty and started losing trust in all my guy friends.
"To me, every single guy friend of mine has a hidden devil in them - molesting me in their dirty mind."
When asked by The New Paper in an interview whether she could have sent the wrong signal by asking Jim along on the trip, Amy clarified that she had actually made it clear to him that they would be doing so only as friends.
She also said: " It didn't occur to me that he would do something like this to me because he's always been known to be a nice person."
As for now, all Amy is asking for is an apology from her alleged molester.
"All I want is an apology," she said.
