MORE people stepped forward this year to be tested for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), an encouraging sign, though the Health Ministry still wants those in the high-risk groups to get tested regularly.

The rise is partly from the opening of four more clinics in November last year offering anonymous testing. They were brought on board in the hope of curbing the disease when infection rates spiked in 2007.

There are now six GP clinics and one Action For Aids (AFA) site in Kelantan Lane that offer anonymous testing.
