Q I love wearing eyeliner but the pencil ones always end up smudging after an hour and make me look like a panda.

A In our humidity, it's not unusual for liners to run and smudge, so think water-resistant or sweat-resistant make-up.

Lined eyes are big for fall. To help rim jobs stay put, use cream of liquid liners

You're better off with liquid, cream or gel-cream liners that stay put on lids for longer. I love the new Shiseido The Make-up Accentuating Cream Eyeliner, which comes with an angled applicator, so you can do a precise wing-tip.

And if you have oily lids, here's a tip from Chase Aston, The Body Shop's international make-up artist: "Dip a Q-tip in some facial toner and run it very gently along your lids. The alcohol in the toner will squelch the greasies.

Next, pat some foundation or make-up base on lids, then apply eye make-up as usual."
