Quick things come in small packages
AsiaOne Motoring talks to Allan McNish, the fiery Scot who's spent 27 years in the fast lane.
With a career that has ranged from the quick-and-nimble karts to the mind-numbing endurance race that is Le Mans (pronounced 'Ler Mond'), to the pinnacle that is Formula One, Alan McNish has driven them all. While McNish isn't the tallest of race drivers at 1.65 meters, his ramrod-straight posture and eager spring in his step speak volumes of the discipline and hunger that drives him on to win races year after year.
As part of the massive Audi entourage that descended on our island for the launch of the R8 in Singapore, McNish was tasked to pilot the venerable Auto Union Type C, driving it from The Marriott Hotel along Orchard Road to Raffles City at Stamford Road. With its bare-bones setup that harks back to the day when seat belts didn't exist, the 70-year-old race car still roared with authority despite looking somewhat alien next to modern shopping malls and ERP gantries. After the short downtown jaunt, Asiaone Motoring took the opportunity to interview the 37-year-old scot. Here's what's transpired: The Scot who's almost done it all (0:47 min)
