Insurers hurting from inflated injury claims

Motorists upset over rising premiums, saying insurers not doing enough to curb abuses. -ST

Insurers are feeling the pain from a rising number of injury claims filed by motorists.

A whiplash claim can come up to $30,000 and that of a fractured heel, knee or hip can go up to $100,000, lawyers representing clients told The Sunday Times.

The medical costs of treating these injuries may not add up to these amounts, but throw in the 'pain and suffering' and the figures certainly can.
