Rudiyanto, a 33-year-old resident of Tanjung Duren in West Jakata, never thought that the floods that inundated his neighborhood would see him end up behind bars.
He was arrested by police based on neighbours' reports after they discovered that he had 23 pots of cannabis plants in his backyard when they went up on to their roofs to avoid the floods, said Tanjung Duren Police Crime Unit chief Adj. Comr. Budi Setiadi on Tuesday.
He said they did not believe the report at first. "But we followed it up and it turned out to be true," he said, as quoted by tempo.co.
Rubiyanto, who was a former drug user, said that he planted the cannabis for fun, according to Budi.
If found guilty Rudiyanto, who will be charged under Law No. 35/2009 on narcotics, faces a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.
