A woman in Luohu District of Shenzhen was decapitated after she was caught between the doors of an elevator and dragged along for at least three storeys. She had been too engrossed in her phone to notice when the lift malfunctioned.

According to an earlier report, the incident took place at Changhong Tower in Woodcrest Hill Street on May 15.

Recent footage circulating online shows how the 24-year-old nurse, Wang, had been using her phone when the tragedy occurred.

Witnesses say that the lift had been coming down from 22 storeys with four passengers, when it stopped between the second and third floor due to a malfunction.

The nurse, engrossed in her phone and thus not paying attention to her surroundings, tried exiting the elevator, only to be trapped between the doors when they closed.

The lift then started moving again after 20 seconds and went down to the first storey, dragging her body along.

She was reportedly decapitated and 'sliced in half'.
