An unemployed woman was charged in a district court on Tuesday with two counts of offering a bribe to a police officer.

Teo Bee Leng, 30, allegedly offered an unspecified sum to station inspector Tan Chuan Howe to be lenient in his investigation into unlicensed moneylending activities of one Wong Kim Shing on Jan 7 and 8.

Mr Wong is a friend of Teo's.

The police officer is with the anti-unlicensed moneylending taskforce of the Criminal Investigation Department.

Bail of $5,000 was set.

The case was fixed for a pre-trial hearing on Aug 6.

If convicted, she faces a fine of up to $100,000 and/or a jail term of up to five years per charge.
