Malaysia, GEORGE TOWN: A 5-year-old girl miraculously escaped with just broken arms despite falling five floors at the 13-storey Medan Tunku flats here yesterday.

Nor Farah Atrina Mohd Ridzuan's family members were relieved but at the same time, left furious over the incident.

Her father, Mohd Ridzuan Anuar, 31, said he was told by his niece that his daughter had fallen down from the fifth floor, landing on the awning on the ground floor.

Nadia Johari, 22, in relating the incident, said Nor Farah was playing in front of the lift with several other children around 4pm when the incident occurred.

"Nor Farah leaned on the vertical steel bar which was loose, and before she knew it, she fell through the gap and five floors down.

"She landed on the awning with a loud thud. The awning subsequently split into two.

"After that, she screamed really loudly," Nadia said at the Penang Hospital yesterday.

Other family members were also present.

Ridzuan said this was not the first incident, noting that several years ago, someone had fallen from the first floor.

He said there had been numerous complaints on the loose bars but no action had been taken by the developer.

"When we complained about the loose steel bar, the developer said it was only one and that they would only replace it if many bars were loose.

"The bar has been loose for several months already," he said, adding that other floors also experienced similar problems.

Ridzuan was thankful that Nor Farah survived the fall with just broken arms,

He added that he would lodge a report and that he was also thinking of suing the developer.

Nor Farah is now in the intensive care unit at the hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
