KEMAMAN, MALAYSIA: A jealous ex-husband was so incensed that his wife had remarried that he assaulted not only her new husband, but also two policemen who tried to break up the fight.

The 40-year-old man, his brother and 20 friends searched for his ex-wife's new 49-year-old husband after finding out that they had married recently. On Friday, they found him about 6pm at a food stall at Kemasik beach here.

They confronted him, and after hurling insults, beat him with iron rods and sticks.

Two police constables, both recruits aged 21, noticed the commotion and rushed to the scene to stop the fight.

A member of the gang suddenly hit one of the constables with a stick on his left leg and the other policeman on his right arm.

The group then fled the scene, leaving the two constables writhing in pain and the ex-wife's husband badly beaten up.

All three sought outpatient treatment at Kemaman Hospital.

The woman, from Kampung Padang Kemasik, and the constables lodged separate reports later that night.

Acting state Criminal Investigation Department chief Superintendent K. Manoharan said police were looking for the woman's ex-husband and his brother, who are from Kampung Binjai and Taman Geliga.
