THEIR dogs only did the 'dog thing' of barking at one another while being taken out on their walk, but it was the owners who ended up in trouble with the law.

Wang Hui, 49, and his son, Wang Xiao Xu, 21, were walking their dog near Block 327 in Ubi Avenue 1 on Tuesday evening, when they came upon another dog owner who was also walking his two pets.

As the dogs passed one another, they started barking.

This sparked off a heated exchange of words between the older Wang and the other dog owner, which eventually descended into full-on fisticuffs. The younger Wang also joined in the fight.

The resulting commotion drew the attention of nearby residents, several of whom called the police.

All three men were arrested.

On Friday, the two Wangs were each fined the maximum $1,000 for affray.

The other man pleaded not guilty, and a pre-trial conference has been scheduled.

The Wangs could each have been jailed for up to a year.
