THIS tax season, 332,000 people will get their income tax assessments automatically, without having to file their income tax returns.

Following a pilot run of 45,000 taxpayers last year, the taxman has extended its No-Filing Service to 332,000 taxpayers, or one in five taxpayers.

The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (Iras) sent out letters to these people over the last month informing them that they do not need to file a tax return.

These selected taxpayers work for companies that submit employees' pay directly to the Iras, and who also have a regular history of tax relief and additional already-taxed income sources like share dividends.

Based on this information, Iras will assess the taxes they need to pay.

About 1.5 million people here have to file tax returns, out of a total full-time and part-time working population of about 3 million.
