THE Trade and Industry Minister can now collect Cess on major tourism events such as the F1 race, from hotels, restaurants and other businesses in the hospitality and tourism sector.

The Singapore Tourism (Cess Collection) Amendment Act was passed in Parliament on Monday.

The Act has been amended to allow the Government to collect tax to defray the costs of organising such major tourism events, from the players who benefit most from the increased tourist traffic.
