In an April blog post titled "Preface", Dr Cai Ming Jie related how his employment contract with IMCB was terminated in May last year.

"Despite my considerable contribution to building up this place into what it is today, I was among the first few Principal Investigators (PIs) to be told to go," he wrote.

The move put Dr Cai in a difficult position, with several failed job applications over the next couple of months. He then decided in November 2008 to become a taxi driver.

Life as a taxi driver

Despite its serious start, the rest of Dr Cai's blog focuses on his daily encounters as a taxi driver in Singapore, stories, which are "all for entertainment purpose", and "just to make the dull job a little more interesting".

"If you enjoy reading them, that's all that makes this blog worth both your time and mine," he said in his latest entry dated August 17.
