800,000 HDB households to receive up to $90 in rebates
The U-Save rebates will offset more than the annual increase in utilities bills. -AsiaOne
About 800,000 Singaporean Housing Development Board (HDB) households can look forward to receiving Utilities-Save (U-Save) rebates this July.
The rebates are part of the five-year GST Offset Package announced in 2007.
Depending on the HDB flat type, a Singaporean household may receive up to S$90 in U-Save rebates.
For example, one- to two-room flats will receive rebates up to $90 while those in three-, four-, and five-room flats will receive S$50, S$45, and S$30 respectively.
Those in executive flats will receive S$20.
The final portion of U-Save rebates will be paid in January 2012.
The U-Save rebates in July are the third portion for 2011.
The rebates were enhanced in the 2011 Government Budget and will offset the annual increase in utilities bills due to the higher electricity and gas tariffs announced for the coming quarter.
The total amount of U-Save rebates received by Singaporean households in 2011 will offset more than four months of utilities bills for families living in 1- and 2-room flats.
Those living in all other HDB flats will benefit from at least one month's offset of their utilities bills.
The U-Save rebates will be used to offset utilities charges directly and unused ones each month will be rolled over to the following months.
