SINGAPORE - National Solidarity Party (NSP) candidate Nicole Seah recently said Mountbatten Community Club (CC) did not allow members of the public attending the opposition rally to use its toilets.
In her opening address at Mountbatten Field on May 2, she said: "I found out that Mountbatten CC did not let you use the toilet because you are attending a NSP rally."
"I wonder what it would have been if it were a PAP rally. Talk about double standards."
In response to her tongue-in-cheek remarks, People's Association (PA) today released a press statement clarifying that "it was not true and that the CC toilets were open to all members of the public."
The NSP rally took place at Mountbatten Field, which is just opposite the CC.
While the CC's toilets are generally open to all, the PA stated some conditions for use.
The Association said: "Party-political activities...are not allowed at the CCs.
"Our staff members will ask members of the public displaying party symbols to remove them before entering the CCs.
"This applies to all political parties."
The night of the rally when some NSP supporters had asked to use the toilets, PA said the staff of the CC had merely asked them to put aside their party flags and badges before entering the CC.
They obliged by folding their flags and removing their badges.
No one was turned away from using the CC’s toilets.
