I READ with interest the commentary, "Not all Gen Y-ers are spoilt brats" (my paper, Oct 31).

There have been previous discussions about young people in Singapore, and they are sometimes portrayed as being self-centred, apathetic and materialistic.

However, after getting to know and working with them in the community, I have a different view of them.

Indeed, I have witnessed some inspiring actions from young people, both as individuals and in teams.

According to recent studies on the profile of these youths, some are confident, tech-savvy, innovative and ambitious, but are also individualistic, proud and disloyal.

However, I do not think it is fair to stereotype all Gen Y-ers as spoilt brats. We shouldn't be too quick to judge or dismiss young people without truly understanding them.

Perhaps it's time we looked at Gen Y-ers more positively.
