TMC Educational Group
ENGINEERING informatics was not his cup of tea, but he pursued the subject in polytechnic anyway.
Mr Lu Sheng, 26, said he was inspired to follow in the footsteps of his uncle.
But he has since embarked on a completely different route.
He is currently pursuing a three-year Bachelor of Commerce degree with a double major in accounting and finance, which is awarded by Deakin University.
The degree is offered in partnership with the TMC Educational Group (TMC).
The former Nanyang Polytechnic student, who graduated in 2003, decided he wanted to study a finance-related subject because of an economics book he read then. He was attracted to the topics discussed in the book, which were mainly finance-related.
He said he looked at several private schools here and even considered going to Australia to further his studies.
But the second-year student said he finally decided on TMC as he liked the way the programme is structured.
Each academic year consists of three semesters, and an examination is held at the end of every semester for each module that he takes.
Throughout the semester, he also has assignments to complete.
WELL-PREPARED
Mr Lu said: "The assignments actually prepare me for the exam. They help me to understand and remember certain concepts better.
"Having one exam for each module at the end of every semester ensures I know what I'm doing before I move to the next semester.
"This is much better compared to having final examinations for all the modules only at the end of the academic year."
Mr Lu said his lecturers also photocopied previous years' exam papers for the class to try out before sitting for their examinations - all of which have helped him to ace his examinations.
