JOHOR BARU: More than three tonnes of subsidised cooking oil was seized from a house during a raid by the state Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs enforcement officers.

A 32-year-old woman, who was acting as a middleman for oil suppliers, was also arrested.

Acting on a tip-off, eight officers raided the house in Taman Austin Perdana about 1pm here yesterday.

Its chief enforcement officer Fahmi Kassim said 100 bottles of the subsidised oil were kept in a room at the back of the house.

"We also seized 20 crates of subsidised flour and a four-tonne lorry. We believe the woman has been in 'business' for a few years," he added.

Fahmi said the woman, who also owned the house, was detained for not having a licence to sell subsidised oil and keeping oil in large amounts.

"More such raids will be conducted in the city to curb the problem of cooking oil shortage.

"I also expect the problem of oil shortage in Johor to be solved soon as we will be getting an additional 1,400 tonnes of oil," he said.
