MANILA - PHILIPPINE President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's approval ratings have slipped to the worst in over two years, the country's leading pollster said on Monday.
The Social Weather Stations agency said 54 per cent of respondents in the poll conducted in the last week of March were dissatisfied with Mrs Arroyo, while only 27 per cent were satisfied.
The net satisfaction rating rounded off to minus 26 is Mrs Arroyo's worst performance in the quarterly polls since minus 30 in December 2005.
Mrs Arroyo, who is facing calls to resign from the opposition over corruption and kickbacks scandals, is however not seen to be in any danger and will most likely remain in office until 2010, when her tenure ends, political analysts have said.
Despite a string of reverses in opinion polls, she is supported by the military and has an overwhelming majority in the House of Representatives. Many in the powerful Catholic church also support her. -- REUTERS
