LONDON, ENGLAND - 'IF You Want Closure In Your Relationship, Start With Your Legs' ran away with top prize of oddest book title of the year in Britain, according to a new poll.

The book, described as a 'self-help manual written by a man for the benefit of women,' pipped 'I Was Tortured By the Pygmy Love Queen' into second place, followed by 'Cheese Problems Solved' in the poll for the Bookseller magazine.

'The winner makes redundant an entire genre of self-help tomes. So effective is the title that you don't even need to read the book itself,' said Joel Rickett, deputy editor of the publishing industry weekly.

The Bookseller's diarist Horace Bent, who organises the awards, questioned his bosses' decision a few years ago to change the way the winner is selected - from a decision by him to an online poll, which this year drew 8,500 votes.

'The public: you just can't trust them,' he said.

'Among the many problems with letting the unwashed masses decide... is their debased vulgarity,' he added, noting a previous winner chosen by readers was 'High Performance Stiffened Structures'.

'A fine work about professional engineering, to be sure, but I fear it was favoured for other reasons.'

Previous winners of the Oddest Book Title of the Year include: The Joy of Sex: Pocket Edition (1997), Development in Dairy Cow Breeding and Management: and New Opportunities to Widen the Uses of Straw (1998), Weeds in a Changing World (1999), High Performance Stiffened Structures (2000), Butterworths Corporate Manslaughter Service (2001), Living with Crazy Buttocks(2002), The Big Book of Lesbian Horse Stories (2003), Bombproof Your Horse (2004), People Who Don't Know They're Dead: How They Attach Themselves to Unsuspecting Bystanders and What to Do About It (2005), The Stray Shopping Carts of Eastern North America: A Guide to Field Identification (2006).
