China Press reported Malaysian singer-songwriter Jet Yi, who had taken RM30,000 (S$12,220) from a bank account belonging to another Malaysian singer Penny Tai, suffered from depression after his public confession in February.

Yi, who appeared for the first time in Malaysia after the incident, said he even thought of committing suicide then.

"I had to seek medical treatment and my doctor urged me to stop composing songs.

"I am currently recovering," said Yi.

He added that he had lost 7kg since the incident.

He also apologised for hurting his friends and the public at a press conference held in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.

He regretted what he had done and thanked Tai for forgiving him.

"She not only did not scold me, but blamed herself for not being aware that I was in trouble. She is like an angel.

"I do not know why I chose the wrong way to get the money instead of asking Tai for help.

"I think it was because of my ego," he said.

In February, Tai revealed on Facebook that RM30,000 had been stolen from her bank account.

A few days later, Yi made the public confession and apologised via a video clip.
