SINGAPORE - The Republic of Singapore Navy has declared a 48-hour safety time-out after Military Expert (ME) 2 Jason Chee Weng Fai was badly injured on a warship on Monday.

The time-out, which ended on Wednesday, will allow the fleet, comprising frigates, missile corvettes and landing ship tanks, to review operating and safety procedures, said the Head of Naval Operations, Rear Admiral Jackson Chia.

ME2 Chee, 29, was injured when he was caught between a motorised winch and a rope on the RSS Endeavour. His condition remains critical.

Detailed investigations into the incident are on. Preliminary findings indicate equipment malfunction as a possible contributory cause.
