Drug lord gets 37 years in jail
Miami - Leebert Ramcharan, a Jamaican designated by the White House as an international drug kingpin, has been sentenced to 37 years in prison for conspiring to smuggle cocaine into the US.

He led a sophisticated smuggling ring in Jamaica that received as much as 15 tonnes of cocaine from Colombia between 1998 and 2004, prosecutors said.
The cocaine was transported by speedboat and aeroplane to the Bahamas and ultimately to the US market.
Police in Colombia, Jamaica and the Bahamas and the US authorities were involved in investigating Ramcharan's organisation.
He was arrested in Montego Bay, Jamaica, in 2004 and extradited to the US in 2007. District Judge Patricia Seitz sentenced him to 440 months in prison.
