TOKYO: Dismal wages are deterring many Japanese from teaching their language to foreigners, a trend that could affect the government's hope of attracting more foreign students to this country.
A recent survey found that the average monthly salary for such full-time Japanese language teachers came to only 210,000 yen (S$2,700), about the same as the starting pay for a university graduate.
Another problem is that full-time positions are scarce.
