SINGAPORE Athletic Association chief executive Christina Tay has quit - just weeks after her involvement in an administration fiasco that could see the sport get zero government funding for the year.

Tay, 43, handed in her resignation letter yesterday at the start of a management committee meeting and has given two months' notice.

The former schools runner, who has a background in accounting and finance, had earned the wrath of SAA president Loh Lin Kok last week when it was revealed that the association had missed at least three deadlines for submitting important training and development proposals to the Singapore Sports Council.

Tay, a former school sprinter and hurdler, was given a dressing down by SAA president Loh Lin Kok last week, after it emerged that the association was staring at zero funding from the Singapore Sports Council when the new financial year begins on April 1.

This was because the SAA submitted its Financial Year 2009 training and development proposal to the SSC over a month late.

She was held responsible because she had dealt with the SSC regarding the submission in recent months. The tardiness could result in SAA receiving the funding - expected to be between $1million and $2million - only in May or June. The quantum it receives could also be reduced.
