KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: Pakatan Rakyat-led state governments plan to offer a special tour package for locals to visit their states.

Selangor Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment Committee chairman Elizabeth Wong said a meeting would be held at the end of the month to discuss details.

She said the package was to counter the fuel price hike and discounts would be offered.

Wong said districts were told to work out a rate to offer discounts to boost domestic tourism.

For example, she said the entry ticket to view fireflies in Kampung Kuantan would be lowered.

"We want people to feel that they still can have holidays in Selangor and the discount would help to ensure tourist flow.

"Local tourism spots will also not make losses," she said after attending the National Tourism Council Conference organised by the Tourism Ministry at Saloma Cafe in Jalan Ampang yesterday.

Wong said the Selangor Government would promote the state in Singapore as Singaporeans were one of the largest groups of visitors.

On Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said's assurance that there would be no cut in allocation for Pakatan state governments, Wong said she looked forward to have a better working relationship with the ministry.
